PS Vita is almost an infamous gaming handheld now in 2023 it’s an example of how poor commercial support can kill even one of the best handheld gaming products of its time so why is PlayStation vita getting so much fanfare even in 2023 and what makes this portable gaming device so incredible if you haven’t been following the video for a while then you’re in for a treat last 12 months has been one filled with a ton of active development in the vita modding community most impressively there’s now a simple way to mod the vita using the browser method just type in a url and follow the prompts previously you had to use a computer to perform the jailbreak but now that this barries is removed i can see so many video users jumping on board to perform this mod if they Surprisingly the hardware the vita still seems to hold up incredibly well in 2023 even though news smartphones are way more powerful they are not designed for gaming in mind the vita has a number of standard input methods with dual analog sticks d-pad and four face buttons not to forget two shoulder buttons as well the games that are natively supported on the vita look and play incredible well this device is over a decade old but still feels like a modern portable gaming device especially With the oled screen available on the first model then there’s the ability to connect the beta to your pc if you to play on a larger screen and also connect up the dualshock 4 as well as the PS5 dual sense controllers the official memory cards Are expensive and unfortunately needed if you have the 1000 data before you can mod it using the pc method the new browser method has the ability to remove this barries once the mod is complete you can use the SD to Vita adapter to store as many games and apps as you’d like not to mention the vita still doubles as a great camera backup if your mobile phone isn’t on you it was randomly spotted at a kendrick lamar concert in november 2022 But this year vita community decided to do a number of android games ports like mass effect infiltrator dead space mobile and crazy taxi classic the yo-yo loader program gives you access to such a large library of other android games that is kind of ironic as a lot of people emphasize that the vita’s downfall was the surge in mobile gaming now we have the video able to play a large number of these games that will on mobile all those years ago there’s some absolute classics that are available on the PS Vita including persona 4 golden uncharted golden abyss and killzone mercenary not to forget gravity rush wiper 2048 and little big planet to me there’s nothing more satisfying than playing games on a device that it was optimized for over time a number of popular indie titles were also released on the Vita including guacamelee terraria fez and shovel Knight the vita has plenty of emulation options including dreamcast snes and n64 but i think there’s plenty of other better devices for for emulating those systems but my favorite thing about the vita is being able to play psp ps1 and video games on a device that is meant to natively support these games with adrenaline you can unlock the entire psp game library we’re talking about nearly 2000 psp games that are potentially playable on the vita and one and a half thousand games for the beta itself this is excluding the ps1 classics library these are total games globally so account for region variations and differences so take these numbers with a grain of salt point being there’s plenty of games natively Supported on the ps vita another cool thing is that if you like to tinker then the reader has option for you to mess around with other emulators ports and connecting random device then there’s the plethora of jrpg games that fans will absolutely rejoice for in a handout like this there’s also those little things that make the vita something special being able to use custom themes and have access to a variety of homebrew software and games means you can make the vita something uniquely yours this also supports your using tons of homebrew on the game brew wiki site that was recently added which again shows how popular the ps vita is becoming now video games are getting really difficult to purchase physically and the pricing for some of them do seem way off but the video store is still alive as of February 2023 so getting some of the classics the legal way is fairly easy and painless the only thing that everyones probably waiting for is some official date that sony will announce for when for when the online store will close down it was briefly set to close in 2021 but there was plenty pushback to keep it open it’s clear sony wants this thing to die so it’s kind of reassuring that the modding community has ramped up so much effort recently to fully unlock the ps vita there’s always something new happening with the PS Vita.
